If Your Dog Bites Somebody

WHAT TO DO IF YOUR DOG BITES SOMEONE

  • Take immediate responsibility. Restrain your dog and remove it to a secure location, another room or if you are outdoors, your car.
  • Check the degree of damage and if the skin is broken wash the wound with antiseptic soap and warm water.
  • Arrange for medical attention if necessary.
  • Provide the victim with your name and address.
  • Contact your insurer and report the incident.
  • Contact us and make an immediate appointment so that the cause of your dog’s aggression can be determined and a plan of action arranged to prevent further biting.
  • Until the problem is overcome, don’t take further risks. Keep your dog muzzled except when it eats or drinks, until we or an experienced dog trainer tells you your dog is reliable without wearing a muzzle. We always have a selection of muzzles available at the clinic.
