The Meaning Of "Heart Disease" And "Heart Failure"
A "heart disease" is any abnormal heart condition. Pets may have heart disease but remain free from clinical signs of their condition. Many pets with heart disease never need any medical treatment. Heart disease however, may lead to "heart failure", a self explanatory term. A failing heart always produces clinical signs, varying from reduced tolerance of exercise, through coughing in dogs, to collapse. A clinically healthy pet known to have heart disease should be medically examined by us every six months so that treatment can begin as soon as the mildest signs of impending heart failure develop.
