Comparing the protein or fat level of one diet to another is pointless. That’s because each diet has a different percentage of water in it. The only accurate way to compare diets is on a dry weight basis. A typical wet food label may say:
Crude protein | 8% |
Crude fat | 7% |
Ash | 2% |
Fibre | 1% |
Moisture | 82% |
This food is 18% dry matter.
Calculate the protein level with this formula.
Crude protein x 100 8x10 = 44.4%
